Add Itunes Library To Sonos

Recently I bought into the Sonos universe (Beam for kitchen TV and now two Ones for living room) and will most likely add more to the house later. All fine and dandy for listening to Spotify, Internet radio, itunes library etc. However, I am now considering it would be nice to add a CD player. How to control your music library using the Sonos Controller app for Mac. During the setup process, you can choose to add your music library to the Sonos Controller app. Launch the Sonos Controller app from your dock or from the Finder. Click Music Library in the menu on the righthand side.

  1. From the Add to Library window, drill up or down to your iTunes Media folder and select all the subfolders except for the 'Automatically Add to iTunes' folder. Select Audiobooks, Books, iTunes U.
  2. First off, you need to connect your AirPort Express to the line-in port on a Sonos speaker. Next, choose “Line-In” as the music source in your Sonos app. With the Apple Music app or iTunes app installed on your Apple TV, play your favorite music as usual.
  3. Choose and import the converted Apple Music songs. Depending on the size of your music library it may take up to 15 minutes to index. More details, please refer to: Adding and updating your music library. Once imported, you can set up Sonos One devices and play Apple Music on Sonos One even if canceling Apple Music subscription.

I do have Plex running on my Synology NAS. My iTunes library is as well located on this NAS because SONOS accesses it perfectly from there.

Everything I found on the Internet regarding importing from iTunes seems to refer to former versions of Plex. The official FAQ page refers to “channels” - something that I can’t find on my settingins page. Instead there is an iTunes Plugin under “Plugins” which I activated along with the XML path. Still I had to Import the library by providing the path to the iTunes Media Folder. There was no option in that Import process to make this an “iTunes Import”.

I restarted my NAS and stopped/restarted Plex with no difference (or do I have to restart Plex in a specific way??)

Plex was able to Import all my Music but it’s my Playlists that I’m desperatly missing…
